The Queensification of Oyster Bay

Jul 1, 2007 - One perspective on how Oyster Bay has changed over the years and where it is headed today.

Hey You Self Absorbed Moron, Drop Your Phone And Use Your Blinker.

Dec 1, 2006 - The other day I paused my car, holding up traffic for a minute to allow an elderly woman to cross east over Route 106 from Norwich Gate, presumably on her way to Stop & Shop. That we desperately need a traffic light and crosswalk here has been discussed numerous times over the past few years.

TOB Board Pays for Campaign Advertising on Your Dime

Jan 20, 2006 - Several times a year I receive a flyer called “Talk of the Town”. This usually four-page, two-color glossy is printed and mailed to me at taxpayer expense. The basis for this expenditure is that the citizens need to be notified of the Town’s “goings-on”. My suspicion: this is a thinly-veiled cover-up of what is really happening: political campaigning on the taxpayers’ dime.

The Gift Season

Dec 21, 2005 - We’ve all heard it: “you’re so difficult to buy for.” This is usually followed by the opening of a box to reveal a tie, a pair of slippers, a new bathrobe – take your pick. It’s not that we don’t appreciate ties, but we find ourselves thinking “how difficult is it really to get me something I actually want?”

Patronage Parking and Republican Entitlement

Oct 26, 2005 - Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto would have you drive around in circles, desperate for a parking spot, so he can ensure that the politically privileged have free access to their own personal parking spaces at any time.
